HEALING MINISTRY
“And he cured many who were sick with various diseases…” (Mk 1:34)
Jesus, the divine Healer, healed the sick as the sign that He was the Messiah who had come to redeem the world from evil and from all inequities. In the gospel of St. John in chapter 11: 1-44, we read the miraculous resuscitation of Lazarus from the dead, by Jesus, was to proclaim the glory of God the Father, the source and author of life. Before that miracle, answering to the queries of St. Martha, Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die”(Jn.11:25-26).
Those who are sick, Pope Francis says, attract the eyes and heart of Jesus. He says, “Christ did not give us prescriptions, but through His passion, death and resurrection He frees us from the grip of evil.” In this regard, he says, “The Church desires to become more and more the ‘inn’ of the Good Samaritan who is Christ (Lk. 10:34), a home where you can encounter His grace, which finds expression in closeness, acceptance and relief.” He reiterated “Life must be welcomed, protected, respected and served from its beginning to its end; both human reason and faith in God, the author of life, require this.”
In response to the grave challenges caused by the covid-19 pandemic, Pope Francis says, “We Christians are guided by the wisdom and strength born of the virtues of faith, hope and love. As God’s gifts, these virtues heal us and enable us in turn to bring Christ’s healing presence to our world. Today the Church seeks to continue the Lord’s healing ministry, not only to individuals but also to society as a whole.”
Imbibing the compassionate love of Lord Jesus, who travelled throughout Galilee and Jerusalem, doing well to all in miseries, our sisters help the poor, assist the oppressed, stand for the exploited and aid the needy indiscriminately without looking their caste or creed. We focus and concentrate towards their total liberation and self-reliant growth and development by adapting a social work methodology comprising of research, diagnosis, strategic planning, formulation, implementation, evaluation and follow ups. We utilize and adopt preventive, curative, rehabilitative, and developmental modules.
Our founder, Rev.Fr.John Kizhakoodan, was an excellent model in offering help to the poor, assisting the daily wage workers with compassion and uplifting the working class people. Our unique charism of ‘imparting God`s compassionate love to all’ urges us to practice this noble acts of mercy wherever our sisters serve for the people of God. At present the activities consist in giving training to the unemployed girls in tailoring especially in stitching cassocks, vestments, antependium etc, in printing related works, in manufacturing of candles, and in the production unit of making of hosts for Holy Mass etc. By engaging them in such small scale income generating industrial works the girls are provided with an opportunity to find out income for their livelihood.
CSM health department generously extend their health care services when and where need arises. Our health care team visits those bedridden patients, who are not able to consult doctors in the hospitals for various reasons, and primary nursing care is provided to them at their homes.
Under the health care apostolate, our sisters are working in hospitals, dispensaries, primary health centres, mobile clinics etc. Our sisters consist of doctors, hospital administrators, nursing staff, paramedical staff such as pharmacists, Lab-Technicians, X-ray Technicians etc. Our health apostolate team also organizes and conducts outreach awareness programs in different parishes, schools etc. They also arrange blood donation camps, free medical camps, blood group determination camps, cataract detection and surgery, asthma detection camps etc. for the public.
